Dr. Stephen Rollnick visit to New Zealand in May 2013 – Mark your diary now!
We are delighted to let you know that HMA will be hosting a three city visit to New Zealand with Dr Stephen Rollnick, who along with Dr. William Miller developed the thinking around motivational interviewing. The dates will be:
Workshop Title: “Motivational Interviewing: Overview & Update”
In this workshop Dr Rollnick will focus has been on how MI might be adapted to improve everyday practice in diverse settings. In this workshop he will use a wide range of teaching methods to:
- Review the origins, spirit and content of MI
- Illustrate, demonstrate and discuss core skills
- Present the new 4-process framework for MI
- Consider broader integration into systems of care
- Address some hot topics of concern to participants
For those outside of New Zealand, Stephen is also visiting the following places while ‘down under’.
- Melbourne – ISMI, 13-14 May (this will coincide with the International Symposium on Motivational Interviewing)
- Perth – 20 May
- Hong Kong – 22-23 May
- Singapore – 24 May
Stephen Rollnick is a clinical psychologist and Professor of Healthcare Communication in the Department of Primary Care and Public Health, Cardiff University. He was a practicing psychologist in the UK National Health Service for 16 years, and then became a teacher and researcher on the subject of communication. He has written books on Motivational Interviewing (Miller & Rollnick, 1991; 2001; 2012), Health Behaviour Change (Rollnick, Mason & Butler, 1999) and more recently, Motivational Interviewing in Healthcare (Rollnick, Miller & Butler, 2007). His main interest is in challenging consultations in hospital and primary care settings. He has published widely in scientific journals and has taught practitioners in many countries and continents. His current interests include the training of practitioners who treat children with HIV-AIDS in African countries, and the development of software-driven learning programmes for practitioners. He grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and lives in Cardiff, Wales.
