Have you signed the pledge

white ribbon

Today of course is White Ribbon Day, a day of remembrance of men’s violence towards women. It is also a day where we take stock of the appalling statistics, recognising that in New Zealand alone, on average 14 women per year die at the hands of their partners or ex-partners.

It is easy for those of who work in the field to stand up and take a position. But violence against women (our mothers, partners, sisters, daughters) will not stop until we ALL take a clear position. This is an area where hedging our bets is a dangerous decision. The pledge is pretty simple. It states: I promise to never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence towards women.

Although I began working on this kaupapa (cause) some 30 years ago, today I repledged my commitment. Join me and the thousands of other New Zealanders in say no to violence towards women.

Take the pledge now
