Motivational Interviewing Intermediate Workshop Auckland 19 – 20 November 2014

This rare opportunity to attend a public workshop with Ken is limited to 20 participants.

This workshop is for participants who have been using MI for a time and are ready to extend their skill base.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

 

  •  Assess, evaluate and revise your own personal, individualised MI learning plan.
  • Deepen your MI skills including complex reflective listening
  • Elicit and shaping change talk and commitment language.
  • Recognise and respond to subtle forms of sustain talk and interpersonal resistance.
  • Facilitate development of action plans.
  • Combine MI with other modalities of treatment.
  • Explore metacognition — thinking and working more reflectively.

Participants will be expected to undertake three hours of online learning ahead of the workshop which will include an online assessment of skill. In addition participants will get a workbook and the HMA produced MI DVD (valued at $120) with 240 minutes of MI demonstrations and discussion to support their learning and development.

Ken McMaster MSW (Hons), CQSW, Memberships: ANZASW, NZATD, MINT
Ken is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and has a thirty year history working in the social service and criminal justice area. He leads the learning and development team at HMA and splits his time between running workshops in Australia and New Zealand and working on programme design. Ken has contributed to the development of new ideas through having written and edited a number of books. Ken’s passion for motivational interviewing dates back to the mid 1980’s when he undertook a scholarship at the Addictions Research Foundation in Toronto at a time when motivational interviewing and processes of change were becoming a significant focus.
