Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers Chapter Meeting
It’s an exciting time for members and Friends of MINT Oceania as they prepare to gather in Melbourne next weekend. This gathering marks the first time in three years that they will be together in person rather than virtually. With so much happening in the MI space during this time, this conference presents a unique opportunity to delve into the growing recognition of motivational approaches across various practice areas. The event will kick off with a Welcome to Country and a smoking ceremony by a Wurundjeri elder, followed by Bill Miller’s update on Stephen Rollnick’s thinking regarding the future of motivational interviewing. Attendees can look forward to learning about the upcoming 4th edition of Motivational Interviewing: Helping people change and Grow, set to release in August. Bill will join remotely to provide the latest update.
The remainder of the two days will cover a range of rich topics, including:
- Tikanga: MI values and values
- Using song to enhance reflection
- MI in speech therapy
- Digital applications of MI
- MI in organisations
- Death, anxiety, mental and medical illness – is their a role for MI
- The righting reflex and emotional regulation
- The future of MI training
- MI in trauma-informed care
- Barriers and enablers for integrating new Mi skills
- MI informed learning in Corrections
I am certainly looking forward to learning a lot more during the weekend. As the current Chairperson of MINT Oceania, I appreciate the wisdom within our community and the willingness to share and stretch practice. Some days I realise how much I still have to learn.
